I just added a new plugin to the site called Twitter Tools. This plugin will pull any tweet I make from Twitter and post it on my blog. It will also post a tweet when I make a new blog post.

It seems to work pretty good out of the box; I’d like to have it more obvious when a post is pulled from a tweet vs. me actually blogging about something. I’m sure it’s a quick fix in the source code somewhere. I’ll send the developer a note to suggest an option in the config page to add a post prefix posted tweets.

Hi Folks,

As you can see the “photos” link is missing from the navigation up above. I’ve gotten fed up with Gallery 2 and the integration with WordPress (WPG2) so I’ve decided to shut it down and find an alternative. WPG2 kept having issues anytime anything changed in Gallery2 (modules updating, etc) and I got tired of fixing them. I also found Gallery2 to be too bloated and slow, it would take days to upload photos. To top it all off, it was like pulling teeth to skin/integrate the damn thing into a WordPress template. So G2 is nuked.

I’m playing around with NEXTGen Gallery right now, it seems promising and solves many of the issues I was having with Gallery2. My one beef is that it doesn’t manage videos, but since I don’t have that many I might just settle for WordPress’ internal media manager for now. I have to work on the NEXTGen template to tweak it to my liking; If I can clean up the link placement (“show picture list”) and maybe fart around with some thumbnails below the large image I’ll be in business.

Once I get the template ironed out and I’m satisfied with the NEXTGen plugin I’ll work on putting my gallery of photos back together and restore that link in the navigation.

Thanks for baring with me!

Scott

I also upgraded the site to WordPress 2.7.1, there are 68 bugfixes in this release, but no new features.

Enjoy!

So apparently I lied the other day when I said that WordPress 2.7 final was being released on December 4th; I guess my sources were not that good.

According to the offical WordPress blog, 2.7 RC2 released today. I just did an upgrade using the new built in upgrade tool with no issues whatsoever. No new features are listed in RC2, but it is said that this version is basically what they will be releasing as final, baring any last minute bug fixes. It also seems to be quicker than RC1, which is a huge bonus for me. I was a bit worried before!

I eagerly await 2.7 final, the new admin interface is so much nicer to use than the previous version. Dropdown menus keep everything organized, the colors and icons are fresh, and thing seem to be where they should be – that is to say, where you would expect them to be. I have nothing bad to say about it. Bring on 2.7 final!

Grab 2.7 RC2 for yourself!

Better late than never, right?

I’ve recently started testing WordPress 2.7 RC1 which brings a significant update to the admin panel user interface. The navigation now flows down the left side of the page instead of across the top, allowing for more room if you happen to use a lot of plugins. Things have also been spiced up with a lot of JavaScript – WP has finally come into the Web 2.0 era with dropdown menus and whatnot now included for admins.

It seems as if the interface is a little laggy though, it takes a moment for the cursor to catch up with what I’m doing if I’m backspacing characters. It isn’t awful though, just doesn’t seem quite as quick. I will reserve final judgement though till 8PM EST when 2.7 officaly releases. I’m eager to test out the autoupdate feature which is now included.

More information about the admin panel can be found here.
