I know I’ve ranted to a few people about this one in person, but the residents of St. John’s, Newfoundland have a serious addiction to Tim Horton’s coffee; so much so that it is creating a traffic issue around the drive-thru’s. It is at its worst in the morning, but seems to be an issue no matter what time of day. Drive-thru lineups wrap around the building, through the parking lot, and out into the street! You can easily wait in the linuep for 30 minutes to order a coffee!

Anyway, according to the Globe and Mail, city council is beginning to take matters into their own hands to try and remedy the situation, saying they are looking at a number of solutions including ticketing motorists who are blocking traffic! I don’t think that is the right way to go, they need to be working with the business owners to solve the traffic problem at their establishments.

Check out the Globe and Mail article here.

I had the pleasure of getting a sneek preview of the new James Bond movie last Thursday night, which is a moot point now becuase it’s taken me this long to post anything about it. I’m sure most people have gone out to see it by now.

Regardless, I really enjoyed this movie! It had negative reviews by a lot of the critics, saying it is too emotional and dark for a Bond movie. I had no issues here; it was emotional and dark, but I think it worked well! This is a new era of Bond.

I only have two complaints: 1) there was too many camera/scene cuts in the action scenes. One critic summed it up well by saying that they were trying too hard to create a feeling of intencity and action by cutting between different action sequences every 5 seconds. It happened, it was annoying. 2) I would be fucking pissed if I was Aston Martin! In both movies they had the DB9-S in for about 2 minutes before absolutely destroying it. I would like to see Bond actually drive the snot out of that car and keep it relatively in tact. That car is way, way too pretty to destroy!

I don’t know what it is with people who drive in St. John’s, NL, but they are the slowest drivers I have ever experienced. Nobody is in a rush to get anywhere. I was on my way home from the office today, driving on a 100 series highway were people were doing 80 km/h in the passing lane! Maybe it is a good thing that nobody is in a rush, perhaps they will all live longer; they would have to to make up for how long it takes them to get anywhere!

The other thing that gets me is that people cannot maintain a consistant speed, do cars in NL not have cruise control? If you are going to do 80 km/h on a highway then do 80 and stay in the slow lane; don’t go from 80 to 110 and back every time you hit one of those limits… this is not a game of pong with the speedometer!

I think I would lose my mind if I had to make this commute everyday. I like my Halifax highways.
