I have a pretty large music library all contained within iTunes (50GB and growing). I have been collecting this music from various sources over the years and inevitably, despite my best efforts, the metadata and album art had gotten away from me. So I turned to the Googles and came up with an application / plugin called TuneUp.

TuneUp uses the GraceNote music database to analyze your music and identify the proper song including all the metadata (artist, title, track number, album, etc) and album art. It presents you with its findings and then allows you to either accept or reject what it has found. If you accept it will retag your MP3s to include the proper data. No more unknown name, unknown artist crap.

I have run my entire MP3 collection through TuneUp and it worked nearly flawlessly. There were a couple really rare, underground tracks that it didn’t properly identify, but there were WAY more that it did (including other rare, underground tracks).

The first batch of pictures from the Hummer Offroad Event at Sunday River in Bethel, Maine. I have another 500 or so photos to sort through so expect another batch to be uploaded. I’ll post an update when they’re up.

Great Review of Windows Live Messenger 4 BETA

I was just browsing over at Ars Technica and came across this great article on Windows Live Messenger 4 BETA. Ars highlights the new features as well as some significant drawbacks with the new messaging client. Lets hope Microsoft is listening and can make the fixes before RTM!

2010-06-03 – Supercars in Halifax

Better late then never, right? June 3, 2010 several supercars and exotics showed up in Halifax to start their rally to Montreal, Quebec to watch the Formula 1 race. It has taken me awhile to get around to it, but here are the photos! Enjoy.

Plugin: Twitter Tools

I just added a new plugin to the site called Twitter Tools. This plugin will pull any tweet I make from Twitter and post it on my blog. It will also post a tweet when I make a new blog post.

It seems to work pretty good out of the box; I’d like to have it more obvious when a post is pulled from a tweet vs. me actually blogging about something. I’m sure it’s a quick fix in the source code somewhere. I’ll send the developer a note to suggest an option in the config page to add a post prefix posted tweets.

Gettin’ My Twitter On

So after what seems like years of resisting Twitter, I have finally signed up for an account. I’m still not 100% sure that I’m into the whole “tweeting” thing, but I can finally see a useful reason to have it – rapid news updates. I’m not all that interested in sharing intimate details of my life, but it’s a great way to get up to the second news / information from various sources.

A coworker introduced me to TweetDeck as a way to aggregate all the tweets and it seems to be a pretty useful app. Plus, it’s built on Adobe AIR of which I am a big fan (Shrink-o-Matic anyone?).

Anyway, if you want to find me on Twitter I’m under the username autumnwalker123; someone already took autumnwalker, so I’m kind of out of luck there.

Hummer H3 more environmentally friendly than a Toyota Prius?

I just came upon a website which argues that from “dust to dust” a Hummer H3 is more environmentally friendly than a Toyota Prius hybrid car.

You may be surprised if you thought hybrids were the obvious winners.

The Honda Accord Hybrid has an Energy Cost per Mile of $3.29 while the conventional Honda Accord is $2.18. Put simply, over the “Dust to Dust” lifetime of the Accord Hybrid, it will require about 50 percent more energy than the non-hybrid version, CNW claims.

And you may do a doubletake after reading this:

For example, while the industry average of all vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2005 was $2.28 cents per mile, the Hummer H3 (among most SUVs) was only $1.949 cents per mile. That figure is also lower than all currently offered hybrids and Honda Civics at $2.42 per mile.

I knew I made the right purchase

Went out with some of the NSJC guys to check out “The Curse”. It’s a gnarly trail and there was some serious Jeep carnage done. All in all it was a great day though!
